Bringing the Zoo to your home: Clark Pest Control debuts its virtual Bug Zoo

Apr 6, 2020, 10:05 AM by Clark Pest Control Lodi Office
With online learning now the norm for millions of California elementary students, Clark Pest Control wanted to make sure that teachers and students could still enjoy learning about different bugs, their beneficial role in the environment, and their unique behaviors and habitats through a series of videos featuring Head Zookeeper Fred Speer.

When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. That’s exactly what Clark, your neighborly pest control, lawn care, and termite control expert, thought when it came to the Clark Pest Control Bug Zoo.

Normally presented in elementary classrooms across the state, the zoo has gone virtual, and now can be brought right into your living room!

The videos will be available on Clark Pest Control’s social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.

What captivating insects will be entering home classrooms this spring? The lineup calls for appearances by the following:

  • Chaco golden knee tarantula
  • Madagascar hissing cockroach
  • Asian Forest scorpion
  • Chilean rose hair tarantula
  • Dubia cockroaches
  • Emperor scorpion
  • And a surprise reptilian guest!

Created in 2010, the Clark Bug Zoo, which is offered for free to all public and private elementary schools, has introduced the fascinating world of arthropods to thousands of budding entomologists across the state. The program meets the State of California’s science curriculum for students in grades two through six.

“We wanted to find a way to continue to engage with teachers and students and provide them with an additional resource during this unusual time,” says Speer. “Education has been part of Clark’s DNA for decades, and this is a way for us to show we care and give back to the communities we serve.
