Termite activity is trending upward. Is your home protected?

Apr 2, 2019, 13:24 PM by Fred Speer

California is heading into prime termite swarming season, and Clark, your neighborly pest control and termite expert, wants you to be prepared.

Termites are a pest that you should not ignore. In addition, they are not a pest that comes with a DIY control solution. Identifying and eliminating termites is a job for the pros.

If you think your home may have termites, your first step is to have it inspected for signs of termites and other wood-destroying pests by one of Clark Pest Control’s highly trained expert inspectors.

Clark inspectors know where to look and what to look for, and they can offer proven solutions to fix the problem, should one be identified. Their goal is to offer you peace of mind and confidence that your termite problem will be taken care of properly.

In addition to conducting a thorough inspection and providing the latest treatment practices, Clark

tracks termite activity across the state to spot trends and be proactive. What has been learned about the activity of these destructive insects?

Termites mirror human population density. If there is more food in a closer proximity, termites will infest areas with high numbers of homes more quickly. And because termite swarmers are relatively poor fliers, homes clustered closely together will increase the likelihood of them finding readily accessible food sources – the wood in and around your home.

The data collected by Clark revealed that, in highly urbanized environments of the state, including the Bay Area, Central Valley and Los Angeles basin, higher numbers of termite issues were identified.

The seasonal spike in termite activity generally takes place between February and May. The data Clark has collected indicates that the biggest spike occurs in April, when call volume to Clark increases dramatically compared to other months. When looking at the last three years (2016-2019), there was a noticeable jump in termite activity between April 2016 and April 2017, and a slight dip between April 2017and April 2018.

How will this year measure up? That’s still to be determined, but with the unusually heavy rains in California this past winter, there’s plenty of moisture still in the ground. Termites thrive in moist conditions.

What’s the best way to protect your home from termites before it’s too late? Call or text (800) WE-NEED-YOU (936-3339), or drop the Clark termite experts an email at clarkcares@clarkpest.com. You can schedule a professional inspection of your home to see if termites are present, and if they are found, our termite experts will review treatment options with you.

Be sure to ask about Clark’s exclusive Termite Infestation Program (T.I.P.), which covers your home regarding future infestations and damages.  A full inspection must be performed to see if your home qualifies. Then, for a small monthly fee, you can avoid costly out-of-pocket treatment and repair expenses, which will give you peace of mind and save you money and headaches.

Until next time, I’m Clark, and thanks for helping me keep unwanted pests out of your home and yard.
