Keeping termites out of your home

Termite Awareness Week 2018

This week marks the annual observance of National Termite Awareness Week. The Clark Man wants to remind homeowners across California and northern Nevada of the threat these silent but destructive insects can pose to your biggest investment.

Termite infestations cause more than $5 billion in property damage each year – an expense typically not covered by homeowners’ insurance policies – so taking preventive action to make your home less attractive to termites is certainly justified.

What makes your home attractive to termites? Trust the Clark Man when he says it isn’t the home cooking. In his February 16 blog, he outlined five attractors that make a home vulnerable to termites.

So what steps can you take to protect your home? Check out the Clark Man’s Seven tips to curb a termite’s appetite to review those pointers on how you can keep your home safe from termite attack during the spring season, when termite colonies swarm in full force.

The Clark Man also wants you to know that termites can be confused with other insects, and only a proper identification, made by a trained pest management professional, will tell you if your home has a termite problem. The presence of termites in your home can be hard to detect – until their destructive ways become too obvious to miss. But you should not attempt this task on your own.

The Clark Man recommends getting a comprehensive annual inspection performed by one our state-licensed termite inspectors, who will examine your home inside and outside.

What are the benefits of having Clark perform a termite inspection?

  • We pay close attention to the attic, the basement or subarea, windows, plumbing, and crawl spaces and voids – favorite pest hangouts.
  • We also target potential termite colony spots, and if we discover termites, we’ll recommend the most effective treatment method, customized to your needs.
  • We’ll also advise you on appropriate repairs for any damaged areas, and we’re especially equipped to make these repairs.

Our integrated pest management (IPM) approach to termite control gives you the most progressive control strategy available. Our termite inspectors and service technicians are trained continuously, and all our inspectors and most of our technicians are fully licensed. If a treatment plan is needed, we'll devise a safe strategy to eradicate the termites, repair their damage, and reduce the possibility of future infestations. Also, be sure to ask your inspector about our TIP (Termite Infestation Protection) program.

If you suspect termites are threatening your home, call or text (800) WE-NEED-YOU (936-3339) or drop me an email at clarkcares@clarkpest.com.

Until next time, I’m the Clark Man. Thanks for helping me keep unwanted pests out of your home and yard.
