Honey bees are beneficial insects that pollinate plants, making fruit, vegetables, nuts and other agricultural yields possible. In fact, honey bees are a valuable resource, and over one-third of all crops in the U.S. rely on pollination. But bees are stinging insects, and Africanized honey bees, or AHBs – a strain that now can be found in many areas of California that we service – can be much more aggressive at defending their hives than other bees, and thus they can pose a danger to the public.

At Clark Pest Control, we know what to do when you call us about the presence of stinging insects.

• We’ll identify whether the stinging insects are bees, wasps, or hornets

• If they’re bees, we’ll assess what kind of safety risk they might pose

• We’ll also determine whether the hive location creates conditions for secondary infestation (attracting other pests)

During the spring months, bee colonies often will “swarm,” which means the colony will leave its old hive and move to a new location. While bee scouts are finding a safe place to relocate the hive, the queen and the other bees will congregate in a mass somewhere – on the ground, in a tree, sometimes on playground equipment. Naturally, the sight of a writhing mass of bees gives cause for alarm, but generally the bees will move in a day or two.
