Velvety Tree Ant
Physical Characteristics
Velvety tree ants are 1/16 long and its abdomen is velvety black, thorax is yellowish red and its head brownish black in color. 
Behavior
Velvety tree ants occur in large colonies with a single queen. Colony nests can be found in trees, stumps, underneath stones and along streams. Indoors, the Velvety tree ant enters in columns searching for sweets.
This type of travels up to 200 feet from the nest, this can be troublesome for picnickers. Velvety tree ants are known for the odor that is omitted when crushed; the odor is similar to a rotten coconut.
Treatment
Most infestations of Velvety tree ants can be controlled with Clark's Year Round Pest Control. However, in cases of heavy, difficult infestations a combination of residual barriers and baits may be used.
