Carpenter Ant
Physical Characteristics
Carpenter worker ants are 1/8 1/2 long and Queens are 1/2 5/8 long, black in color.
Behavior
Carpenter ants occur in large colonies with several queens. Colony nests can be found in wall voids, insulation, rotting fence posts, decaying trees and can be very destructive to timbers, they will forage up to 300 feet from the nest. Outside carpenter ants are attracted to honey dew, fruit and plant juices and insects.
Inside, the carpenter ant will seek out and feed on sweets, eggs, meat, cakes and grease. Carpenter ants will usually enter building through window frames, eaves, plumbing and utility inlets.
Treatment
Most infestations of Carpenter ants can be controlled with Clark's Year Round Pest Control. However, in cases of heavy, difficult infestations a combination of residual barriers and baits may be used.
